OVERVIEW
Chesnut Charter School was established in 1968 to meet the needs of the
Peachtree / Dunwoody community. It is located just outside Interstate 285, and next door to Peachtree Middle School. The school
has grades Pre-K through 5.
In the 2000-2001 school year, Chesnut began operating as a Charter School, with an emphasis on basic
skills. Curriculum will be enhanced with technological additions and improvements.
The charter gives Chesnut the flexibility to challenge and develop each student to his/her full potential.
SCHOOL GOALS
Chesnut School, is committed to educating the whole child. They develop young people who
are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, well-rounded, physically active and thoughtful. Chesnut students
become honorable and contributing citizens, who are internally motivated to achieve their highest
potential.
UNIQUE ASSETS
Chesnut School has implemented art, music &
technology programs, in addition to its regular curriculum. The
school has a strong and involved PTA, which has enabled
it to provide many advantages for our students. Parents also volunteer to help out at the school, and serve on the different Charter Action
Teams.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
Chesnut students participated in the Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, Academic Bowl, Media Festival,
Social Studies Fair, Black History Bowl, and many other activities.
Consolidated School Improvement Plan
The Consolidated School Improvement Plan (CSIP)
is an internally developed blueprint designed to increase student
achievement. In the DeKalb County School System, we use one plan for
school improvement, accreditation, funding, programs and
initiatives.
Chesnut's Plan is available for review by going
to the website:
